•A few of us went to the C.L.A.N. Conference at St. Andrews this year. As always it was amazing. Here is one C.L.A.N 1st timers thoughts on it...
Derek, Lauren and I decided to go to C.L.A.N. as our friends were going and highly recommended it. After the birth of our daughter we had forgotten all about holidays, so this was the perfect opportunity to recharge our batteries.
We stayed at the David Russell Hall apartments which are owned by St Andrews University. The room consisted of a room with an ensuite and a shared kitchen/living area. Before arriving I honestly wondered what we had let ourselves in for by staying at student accommodation however it was nicer than any 3 star hotels I have ever stayed at. Also because C.L.A.N. is such a large event most of the people staying at the apartments were Christians so the atmosphere was really great. It was also really lovely to come home at night and discuss with our flat mates what we had heard during the day and find out what they thought of the seminars.
The main C.L.A.N. event lasts from Saturday to Friday and the programme is jammed full of things to do. A typical day consists of worship at 09:30 followed by a seminar at 11:45, then another seminar at 14:30 and then evening worship at 18:30. It can be very tiring so we decided to miss out on the afternoon seminars. After the morning and evening worship there was ministry which gave everyone the opportunity to go and be prayed for by a dedicated ministry team member. There are activities throughout the day for kids which looked absolutely fabulous.
St Andrews is lovely and there are lots to see and do so when we felt like a breather from C.L.A.N. we headed to the beach, shops and aquarium.
The worship was amazing better than anything we have ever experienced and as a family we were so uplifted and filled with the Holy Spirit. Previously I found it unnecessary to lift my hands to worship the Lord during Sunday service but after one worship service at C.L.A.N. it felt natural to do this and a great way to praise God.
I was also blessed and privileged to see people full of the Holy Spirit praying in tongues, which at first was rather bizarre as I had never experienced this. One night after a powerful worship service a number of people started to pray in tongues and it was the most spiritual experience I have ever had.
I would like to take this opportunity to share a personal experience that Derek encountered while at C.L.A.N. The first night that he went for ministry they asked what he wanted to be prayed for, he replied “to be filled with the Holy Spirit”. When he was prayed for he felt a shivering in his head and arms but thought nothing of it. Once finished he began to walk back to his seat he only got about ten steps when all of a sudden he realised that his legs were like jelly and an enormous grin appeared on his face. He was ‘drunk in the Holy Spirit’. This is the first time that he had ever experienced anything like this.
Another highlight of the week was certainly the fudge donuts which were delicious. The sun also shone, and sitting with good christian friends on the grass in the sun, enjoying a fudge donut and knowing that by Gods grace we are saved what more could you ask for.
C.L.A.N. Ayr is a weekend conference which takes place on the 23rd – 25th October 2009 in the Scottish Agricultural College (all ages catered for). There are a number of people from the church attending and there is more information available on the church notice board.
